Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act
Wednesday, July 30, the House of Representatives voted on H.R. 1108, the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act. This bill would provide the federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) with the authority to regulate tobacco products. Among other things, H.R. 1108 would require tobacco companies to provide a detailed
disclosure of ingredients in their products, prohibit tobacco companies from making health claims about their products without adequate scientific evidence and ban all flavored cigarettes except menthol. Previous versions of a bill to provide the FDA with the authority to regulate tobacco products have passed the Senate in years past but this is the first time such a bill will be voted on by the House of Representatives.
