The Long Beach City Council is in danger of taking a huge step backwards in the fight for smokefree air!
Tomorrow, Tuesday, February 3rd, the Long Beach City Council will vote on a recommendation to weaken the smokefree law and permit indoor smoking lounges in cigar shops, cigar lounges, hookah lounges, and tobacco shops.
What you can do:
1. If you live in Long Beach, contact your City Council members and the Mayor NOW. Ask them to vote NO on the smoking lounge ordinance. All workers in Long Beach deserve protection from secondhand smoke exposure at work.

2. If you don't live in Long Beach, encourage area friends and colleagues to contact the City Council. If the ordinance passes, it could set a dangerous precedent and encourage other California cities to also weaken their smokefree protections.
Approving this exemption would be a huge step backwards for Long Beach. While cities across California are expanding smokefree air protections, the Long Beach City Council is set to roll back public health protections. If the ordinance passes, any of the approximately 650 retail establishments selling tobacco could apply for and develop a smoking lounge.
