4-13-09 The eleven tobacco-related bills that have been introduced
The eleven tobacco-related bills that have been introduced for the 2009 legislative session of the California Legislature have started to move forward in the legislative process. The attached April Legislative Update provides complete summaries and status updates on all eleven tobacco-related bills.
Two bills, SB 4 (Prohibiting Smoking in State Parks and State Beaches by Senator Oropeza) and SB 53 (Authorizing the Attorney General to Negotiate Amendments to the Master Settlement Agreement by Senator DeSaulnier), have already been passed by Senate policy committees. This is the first time that Sen. Oropeza’s bill to prohibit smoking at state parks and beaches has been passed by the Senate Natural Resources and Water Committee. Sen. Oropeza had similar bills each of the last two years that never even received a vote in that committee.
