Dr. Forman received his doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Duke University in 1978.  He spent the early part of his career working in community mental health.  He was a member at the Department of Psychiatry faculty at University of South Dakota School of Medicine before becoming Director of Marriage and Family Therapy training at the University of Miami.  Dr. Forman also held faculty appointments at the University of Miami School of Medicine in the Department of Psychiatry and the Department of Family and Community Medicine.  Dr. Forman has authored or co-authored over 60 scientific and professional articles and handbook chapters, and co-authored two books on professional mental health practice. His publications include works on hypnosis and NLP. In addition to certification in hypnotherapy, Dr. Forman is also certified in Jewish Healing, which is used in spiritual psychotherapy.  Dr. Forman has been practicing hypnotherapy since 1982 and finds this to be one of the most enjoyable aspects of his professional work.  In addition to smoking cessation, Dr. Forman uses hypnosis with those who suffer from Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and Crohn's Disease. His other professional interests are ADHD and couple therapy.
