Why Are They Marketing E-Cigarettes to Children?
by Mark Barrus
The FDA has announced an intent to regulate E-Cigarettes, according to Tobacco Free Hall County and will change its jurisdiction to include e-cigs along with all other tobacco products.
Great…. but what’s the timetable?
How long will High School, and Middle School, children sneak off and “Vape” with their friends, thinking that what their doing is safe? The unspoken issue is that these products if used regularly, will create a daily habit like any other, and can very easily be a Gateway to a daily smoking habit.
More from Tobacco Free Hall County:
According to Dr. Couper, medical director of oncology at St. Francis Cancer Treatment Center and professor at the University of Nebraska Medical Center/adjunct faculty, said, “The FDA should regulate popular e-cigarettes as ‘tobacco products’ because they heat liquid nicotine into a vapor that is inhaled by the user. This battery-operated product puts people, especially kids at risk.
“They are being led to believe that e-cigarettes are a safe alternative; however they are not because they are highly addictive and can deliver strong doses of nicotine, which is the culprit for addiction. Also, it encourages the public use of it making smoking behavior socially acceptable, ruining years of efforts to help change the behavior of people.”
The flavored cartridges can be very dangerous for young children, and the nicotine levels vary up to 24 mg. A fatal dose for children is around 10 mg.
The marketing for the Blu e-cigs is heavy. Did you know that Blu is owed by the Lorillard Tobacco Company (3rd largest in the USA) also sells Newport, Kent, True, Old Gold, Maverick, Triumph, Satin, and Max?
It's as simple as this: Addictive nicotine-delivery systems, with other unresearched health dangers, are being marketed, advertised and sold to children so that a handful of greedy, unscrupulous, immoral people can make a financial profit.
