Getting Employees to Kick the Habit

When it comes to wellness benefits, it’s no surprise that small companies offer fewer of these perks than large firms given the costs involved. But one benefit that both small and large employers equally invest in: smoking-cessation programs.

According to a new survey from financial-services company Principal Financial Group, 14% of businesses with between 10 and 500 employees provide help in quitting smokingthe same percentage as businesses with more than 500 employees. For all of the other benefits listed in the study such as blood-pressure checks, cholesterol screening and fitness facilities the percentage of small businesses providing them was lower than that of large firms.
