Are you ready to continue smoking?

By Robert Freid

Wed, May 04 2011

Robert Freid

Are you ready to continue smoking? What? That’s Right. I asked you the question are you ready to continue smoking? We all make choices in life. If you have already seen me and stopped smoking or have made arrangements to do a stop smoking program that is great. If you have not called me or some other program to stop smoking, then you have chosen to continue smoking. Are you sure you are ready for that choice whether you smoke in NJ or somewhere else? Are you ready to lose a leg? Do you have long term disability insurance? Who will take care of your family when smoking takes you? If you do not have a family, do you expect your boyfriend/girlfriend or parents to take care of you? Are you willing to take an oxygen mask with you everywhere you go? If the answer to any of the above questions are no, then you are not ready to continue smoking, yet you are. That is a contradiction within yourself.

Naturally, I am in the business of selling hypnosis, but if you are inspired to stop cold turkey, that is wonderful (most people fail with cold turkey). Your answer cannot be no, you are not willing to lose a leg or be on oxygen forever and you are ready to continue smoking for that is not logical and not dealing with reality. In the nine years I have been in private practice as a hypnotist, I have had many clients come to me on oxygen tanks, thanking me for helping them get off their cigarettes forever, but expressing with tearful eyes that they wished they had come to me sooner. By the same token, I have had young people, with wisdom advanced perhaps their years come to me not wanting all of those things happen. All of the horrible what if’s I have raised above are from actual smokers that I have met. I have also had a small number of people tell me that they are not ready to give up smoking. How stupid is that? That is sad that abuse of self and quite often others that goes on with smoking. Yes, it is abuse to smoke by other people, the laws have just not caught up yet.

Did you know, if you go to mail tobacco, you have to tell the Post Office that tobacco is enclosed since it is a hazardous substance? When you smoke, do you go where no one else is in sight or will be coming, such as the the last space in a parking lot? Or do you do what I see smokers do all of the time, park where it is convenient for you and smoke away regardless of your victims? What difference do you see when you see a heroin junkie in a movie and a smoker? Not much; smokers are in a downward spiral even if they are not aware of it. The smoker is actually taking more victims, causing cancer, increasing asthma. Stop! With you smoking. Stop with your excuses. You are done. When you are endangering/affecting others with your second hand and even third hand smoke in New Jersey. Who are you to do that? People, such as that can chose to be losers in life, or to be winners with stop smoking with hypnosis in New Jersey forever. You can have a life of horror and misery from smoking or a life of serenity free from the false need of cigarettes

The Hole

By Linda Stark B.A, CCH

Tue, Jan 18 2011

Linda Stark

At some time in our life, we may feel an uncomfortable hole in our belly. This uncomfortable feeling aches to be taken care of, like a little niggle. This may have occurred when we were a child or even as an adult. Perhaps one time we find something that seems to make that hole shrink and the irritating niggle goes away. A light bulb then goes off in our mind. We have found something that seems to fill that hole for us, so we do it again and again and again. All of this is fine until we start to feel GUILTY. Once the guilt seeps in, which is usually not more than a minute later, the hole gets bigger than ever. And this process becomes a never ending habit for us.

This hole is usually filled with destructive habits such as smoking, excessive eating, pornography, procrastination, gambling, drugs, alcohol, and just about any addictive behavior that creates guilt. Guilt would occur anytime we feel like “why did I do that yet again”?

What to do? Any time we feel guilty our self esteem is greatly diminished. We do however need to fill that gapping hole with things that aren’t associated with guilt. So what are some hole fillers or hole shrinkers that do not create guilt? We each have our own answer for that. Perhaps it could be reading, having coffee with a friend, taking a walk, exercising, doing something kind for someone, and the list goes on. Once the hole is filled with these positive kinds of actions, and we no longer act on our guilt laden actions, our hole begins to shrink.

To get over an addiction takes a lot of work. Perhaps you have tried it on your own and have not had any luck. Often this is because you can’t seem to see yourself not having this addiction. Hypnotherapy could be the answer for you. In a state of Hypnotherapy the subconscious mind is brought to the forefront. A picture can be created for the subconscious mind to visualize for you to see yourself without that addiction. With this mental visualization, your conscious mind can then assist you with moving on to a place to have a diminishing hole, high self esteem and reacting to life without guilt.

IT’S ALL ABOUT YOU

Working on making changes is always about what you want for yourself. No amount of pushing by other people really creates the desire for you to change. You know what you want for yourself and you are the one that needs to make the decision that you want to change and are ready to take the responsibility to make the change work for you. Sometimes even knowing that you need to make changes doesn’t push you over the edge to be successful. Maybe that little voice inside of you says “I really need to do this”, but there is still a part of you hanging onto old behaviors, resistant, stubborn and proving to yourself and the world around you that you “just can’t do it”.

What does it take? It really takes you finding out what is important to you and you alone. It’s not the proverbial “will power”; it is a decision by you as to what you really want for yourself and what you are willing to do about it. That’s right, willingness is the key and not just saying you are willing but feeling it inside and taking responsibility for making positive choices for yourself. It’s so easy to stay in past behaviors and to do what you’ve always done in the past; but it is really hard to make new choices and change what you’ve been doing forever, even when you know that you want to change.

One of the hardest decisions and most difficult choices relates to smoking. While smoking is only one item to change by itself there is a whole world of behaviors that must be changed. Number one, and not to be forgotten, it truly is addictive. But, also, there are a ton of behaviors that go along with smoking. Think about the places where you light up the most, foods and drinks that you associate with smoking, what you do with your hands, friends that you smoke with, talking on the phone, driving in your car and so on. For many smokers the thought of the “dreaded withdrawal symptoms” are enough to end your commitment before you even get started.

If the pressure of quitting is getting to you and you really want to change, there is a way. Maybe you’re thinking about quitting, but not sure that you can handle quitting, you’ve talked to others who quit and went back to smoking; you just don’t know what to do. I just hinted that there is a way and yes, hypnosis is truly the answer if you are ready and willing to commit to yourself that you really want to make this change. No drugs, no patches, just relaxation and a follow up CD to be used for 30 days. Each and every issue mentioned will be addressed in your hypnosis session, including not substituting food for cigarettes.

Diabetes and Hypnosis

By Devin Hastings

Fri, Nov 05 2010

Devin Hastings

Diabetes is now classified as a worldwide epidemic. Blindness, kidney disease, impotence and many other illnesses are often the direct result of out-of-control or undiagnosed diabetes.

Fortunately, there are several ways hypnosis can help. See which one of the following statements applies to you or someone you know.

?As a person with diabetes, do you ever feel stressed?
?Are you the parent of a child with diabetes?
? Do you wish that you, your child or spouse were more motivated to exercise?
? Would you like to make better food choices?
? Is your diabetes causing embarrassing, personal problems (impotence)?

Now, since a hypnotist is, by a National Guild of Hypnotists' definition, a stress management consultant and a motivational coach, all of the above challenges can be powerfully addressed by using hypnosis but please note the following: a hypnotist is only part of your diabetes support team. Always be sure to have your doctor’s approval before beginning any hypnosis program that can have any influence on your medical condition.

The primary method by which hypnosis helps a person with diabetes is by reducing harmful stress. There are two fundamental ways in which stress negatively affects a person with diabetes:

(1) Stress robs a person of necessary personal power that is crucial in giving a person the emotional ability to make choices that benefit their health and well being.

(2) As a diabetic’s stress levels increase, so does their blood sugar. This is due to the ‘fight-or-flight’ response that people experience as a result of negative stress. When a person enters this state of mind, their body releases chemicals known as ‘insulin-antagonists’. These chemicals temporarily block the action of insulin while simultaneously causing the release of stored sugar in the liver and muscles.

With the above understanding about the two ways that stress affects a person with diabetes, let’s see how that information, specifically point one (as point two is self-explanatory), then applies to the five problems listed in the second paragraph.

Regarding statement one it is obvious to anyone with diabetes that having that disease is very stressful. This harmful state of emotional affairs then makes it more difficult for a diabetic to follow their doctor’s recommendations.

Also, when a person is in emotional pain, they usually reach for whatever makes them immediately feel better. This can be any addiction, though it is usually food and typically too much and not the kind that is good for a person with diabetes.

Looking at statement two, it can be noted that stress packs a powerful double punch for parents of children with diabetes. This is because first, the parent is stressed out caring for an ill child and second, the child has overwhelming stress because they are not as equipped as an adult to deal with the enormous responsibility of successfully managing their disease.

The parent must also then have to deal with their child’s stress. This double-whammy makes it very difficult to achieve the kind of precise care that is needed for good child diabetes management.

In statement three, the fundamental issue is exercise. Since 95% of all persons with diabetes have Type 2 and since 90% of all those persons are obese, the implications for enhanced exercise motivation are all too clear.

For example, it is well documented that many Type 2 diabetics have had complete symptom remission after achieving a significant reduction in weight typically due to exercise and diet improvement.

Additionally, exercise greatly contributes to one’s sense of well being and this therefore becomes a positive motivational cycle.

Statement four addresses a concern that many people have, not just those with diabetes. “I wish I could just eat better!” is a familiar refrain.

Again, just as a hypnotist helps a person to reduce their feelings of stress, they can also help that person to strengthen their inner commitment to making better food choices.

Keep in mind that even a small reduction in a diabetic’s long term blood sugar tremendously reduces their chances of having serious complications later on.

Statement five refers to conditions that are difficult for most people to talk about. For brevity’s sake this discussion is limited to one very common embarrassing problem: impotence. Nearly 60% of all males with diabetes experience impotence.

There are two concerns here:

(1) There is a good chance that these people and their partners are feeling a great deal of unnecessary and harmful stress.

(2) A male diabetic may choose to take a medication for impotence when that medication is inappropriate and quite possibly harmful. This concern is also relevant to those millions of men with undiagnosed diabetes.

In conclusion, a hypnotist can be an important part of a diabetic’s health care team because a person can be responsibly coached by a properly trained hypnotist to more effectively deal with the above mentioned issues.

Warm regards,
Devin Hastings

Hypnosis or Hypnotherapy, Which One is for Me?

by Andy Leon, BSN, MS, CH

Thu, Sep 23 2010

Andrew M. Leon, BSN, MS, CH Certified Hypnotherapist

After centuries of use in various cultures in many parts of the world, man's ability to induce and use relaxation and trance as part of the healing art is still viewed as magic or occult by many, even in the enlightened western world. Such an attitude places us in the position of a miner who celebrates the gold nugget discovered in a superficially tapped gold mine with nothing more than a small pick ax and never realizing that the mother lode, the real power of the mind lies beneath his feet. Without instruments and the knowledge of geology, he cannot know that the nugget, over which he is celebrating, is only a micro-fragment of the wealth that lies below and for us the real power of the mind lies even closer, if we are willing to pursue it a little further.

We are often fascinated by other people's intelligence or by their beauty, talent or skill. These are things that we observe on the surface of each other without really understanding the real substance. Often it is enough for us to make decisions to learn more about them or not. If we are very astute, we might be able to surmise that the person being observed is really, very different than what they present. Why is that? Are they lying or is something else going on, perhaps unknown to either subject or observer? For that matter, is the person I portray really the person that I really am? Do I really wish to know? If the answer is "yes", then the next question is going to be to find out where that knowledge lies.

How to Talk to a Smoker

Meg Tocantins, Consulting Hypnotist

Stop Smoking Hypnosis, Quit Smoking

As a hypnotist who specializes in smoking cessation, I receive several phone calls a month from frustrated, scared spouses, parents, grandparents and friends for advice on how to help the smoker in their lives quit. I feel their fear and frustration, but smokers quit when they are ready and nagging does not help. If it did work, it would have worked a long time ago. So, stop nagging and use a different approach. I submit the following unorthodox tips on how to help the smoker in your life quit smoking.

1. In a short (five or ten minutes), poignant conversation, tell the smoker you care about him and you would do anything he asks to help him quit. This is not an intervention. You are telling him how smoking is impacting you and other people (even your pets) in the smoker’s life. Be specific: “Our son is smart enough now to know the dangers of smoking and he’s scared you are going to die.” “I don’t want to see you wither away from cancer.”

2. Promise that you will never, ever bring the subject of quitting smoking again, until he is ready to discuss it.

3. Renegotiate your terms. You are doing something hard - you are going to stop nagging. You now have the power to change the arrangement the two of you had. If the smoker smoked in the house, send him outside. If he smoked in the car, ask him to stop. If he’s already smoking outside, you can still change the terms to “never smoke where I can see you or smell you.” You are not demanding. The operative word here is “negotiate.”

4. If you are paying for the cigarettes, on any level, STOP. If your spouse or child is depending on you for an allowance or other funds, tell him you will not fund the smoking habit. Do the math with smoker – “Cigarettes cost $7 a pack and you are smoking a pack a day. That’s $50 a week.” Deduct the amount of the cigarettes from the allowance. If you do not give him an allowance, but he lives rent free, start charging rent, at least the amount of the cigarettes. And, if it weren’t already, the home is now a Smoke Free Home. (Be fair and give him one month’s warning if you start charging rent.)

5. Do not use children to plead your case or nag for you. You may scare the child or scare him more than he already is. However, if the child has come to you asking, “Why doesn’t daddy quit smoking?” or “I’m afraid Grandma is going to die because he smokes,” you may refer the child to the smoker to answer the question. “I don’t know the answer, but you can tell Grandma how you feel about this.”

6. Do not offer to pay for the patches, acupuncture or hypnosis sessions because the smoker may say to himself, “If it doesn’t work, it’s not costing me anything.” Smoking costs money and a smoker needs a financial incentive to quit. You can offer to reimburse the cost of the patches or hypnosis sessions after he has been smoke-free for six months or a year.

7. Keep your promise not to nag.

Note from Meg: I hope to live in a world where no one wants to smoke. My goal is to make this happen, and I’m going to do it- just watch me.

What is Hypnosis? How does it work? Can you be successful?

Anna H. Spencer, PhD

Stop Smoking Hypnosis, Quit Smoking

Hypnosis is an education communication process to a person’s mind that allows his conscious and subconscious mind to believe the same message. During hypnosis the body and conscious mind are in a relaxed neutral state while the subconscious remains awake and receptive to suggestion. It feels like day- dreaming on a warm spring day.

Hypnotic suggestions bypass the intellectual mind called the “conscious” and zero in on the subconscious. When given a new suggestion that is within bounds of a person’s belief system and moral orientation, the subconscious mind accepts it literally as a new reality.

The ability to reprogram emotional attitudes and reactions is latent talent within every human being. Hypnosis is the most functional and reasonable way to train life-long attitudes, rather than suffer a lifetime of emotional accidents that the conscious mind is unable to change.

People of average intelligence can be hypnotized in most cases if they are willing and do not resist.

Suggestions stay with some individuals indefinitely, others need reinforcement. The effects of hypnosis are cumulative. The more the techniques are practiced and post hypnotic suggestion brought into play, the more permanent the results become. The Hypnotic reinforcement CD that I spoke to you about will provide the additional support for your resolution to be a non-smoker one day at a time for the rest of your life.

The individual appointment is important because I use a specifically designed formula to help you make sure that this is what you what to do. It is psychologically sound and has worked with everyone that I have helped to Stop Smoking. The CD is for reinforcement and should be used as directed. It is only 15 minutes long however it is cumulative and brings results.

I have worked with and taught thousands of persons like you over the last 30 years and those that followed the program were successful - they Stopped Smoking.

It takes desire [which you have] belief in your mental ability to follow suggestion and expectancy that you will Stop Smoking.

I can not guarantee anything to any body nor can any of the programs available that you may have already tried. Hypnosis is a consent situation in which 10 percent of the effort is the hypnotist’s, and 90 percent is the responsibility of the client. I can help you through the power of your mind to help your reach your desired goal.

Thank you for contacting Healthy Life Center. We are located in Royal Oak, MI.

Sincerely yours,

THE BENEFITS OF JOURNALING

by Loretta Peters-Martin, CCH, ACH

Stop Smoking Hypnosis, Quit Smoking

Journaling is highly beneficial for the soul, and even necessary if you feel depressed, angry or sad. It is a great way to understand your feelings and what makes you tick. The clarity it provides is amazing. Julia Cameron, author of The Artist's Way: A Spiritual Path to Creativity, recommends three pages a day. The first page is the “busy mind” talking -- the part of us that writes things such as “I’m tired and not in the mood to do this”; “I have to remember to pick up the dry cleaning tomorrow” or “I don’t feel like working today”. After the busy mind has the opportunity to vent, we can then go deeper, whether it happens on the second paragraph or the second page. I like to get up each morning and write 3 pages of “stream-of-consciousness” (as Julia calls it) writing. Many of my questions and concerns are answered when I journal, and I evolve by leaps and bounds.

Some folks prefer to journal on the computer. I prefer to write by hand, as it is more personal and allows the inner child (the subconscious) to express – especially if the non-dominant hand is used. I purchase beautiful, bright, colorful 3-5 subject notebooks from Staples. I also use my favorite pens, and change colors every day (to make it fun). My personal preference is Uniball Vision’s Fine pens in hot pink, aqua, green, purple, red, wine and dark blue. I spend a lot of time at my computer, and writing by hand not only gives me a break from the computer, but it also adds color and excitement to my personal journaling process.

If typing is your preference, there is a software package called "Life Journal": http://www.lifejournal.com/. This journal offers a unique and fun way to write. The software costs about $40, and a personal username and password keeps your loved ones at home from snooping. Of course, Microsoft Word or other word processing programs can be used for journaling, but the Life Journal adds some spice to the process, and is a more amusing way for the serious journal keeper to express.

Finally a method that works!

by Robin Hart, CHt

Stop Smoking Hypnosis, Quit Smoking

Stop smoking once and for all with hypnosis

NO withdrawals ~ NO cravings

AFTER ONE SESSION you will no longer want a cigarette.

It will be a lot easier than you thought it would be!

Withdrawal symptoms are primarily due to the power of conditioned responses which are the patterns and habits we create to deal with stress, worry, trauma etc. These conditions create a negative feeling or state of mind which becomes a trigger in your brain and then you automatically need to have a cigarette in order to feel better. Smoking a cigarette then becomes an emotional response to these triggers; you are in essence “self medicating”. This self medicating feeling is only temporarily but the effects of cigarettes are DEADLY over time.

Your beliefs and negative self talk reinforces it. Every time you say “I need a cigarette”, "It’s too hard to stop smoking” or “I just don't think I’m strong enough to stop” you are reinforcing those thoughts and feelings and programming your mind and body to crave cigarettes. Your subconscious mind doesn’t know the difference between your imagination and what we call reality; the subconscious experiences both as real.

We use a hypnosis process called “progressive hypnosis” where the client is moved into a deep state of relaxation. The body can relax deeply and then the mind can relax. When the mind relaxes it will move into an altered state of consciousness called hypnosis. All hypnosis is self hypnosis and the hypnotherapist is just the tour guide. You MUST want to be a NON-SMOKER in order for you mind to accept it. Hypnosis cannot make you do something you don’t want to do, or that goes against your core moral values or beliefs.

HOW THE SUBCONSCIOUS MIND WORKS

by Loretta Peters-Martin, CCH, ACH

Mon, Aug 16 2010

Stop Smoking Hypnosis, Quit Smoking

Have you ever daydreamed? Have you ever missed an exit off the freeway or taken a wrong turn because your mind wandered somewhere else? Daydreaming is a form of hypnosis. When we chop vegetables for dinner, we can become hypnotized. When I go through my workout routine, I can become hypnotized. I have to keep a pen and paper handy because I suddenly get a fresh, creative idea or I remember to calendar something that I had previously forgotten. Hypnosis comes in many packages.

Hypnosis is not a form of mind control. No one can hypnotize anyone into doing anything that is against his or her morals or ethics, and no one can be hypnotized into doing something that they do not want to do. We all experience some form of hypnosis every day – chopping veggies, driving or exercising. When we are in a state of hypnosis, our conscious mind is relaxed and our subconscious mind is susceptible to suggestion, while simultaneously we are very aware of our surroundings and what is happening.

You have heard about the left-brain and right-brain. The left brain is our logical mind -- the one that says: “Don’t touch the stove; you’ll get burned,” “I have to go to work today,” or “Pick up the dry cleaning.” The right brain is the creative mind -- the subconscious mind and the place where the inner child resides. Our subconscious mind has a 10 year-old mentality. It stops growing by the age of 10, and that is why our dreams can be strange and symbolic. It is so the subconscious brain (the inner child) can understand and process. If you have kids, you know how they can take everything literally.

Stop Smoking Hypnosis, Quit Smoking

Oh, yeah! Here we go again. You’re searching for a magic wand to end the horrible cravings you have for nicotine. You know that you’re hooked, and that nicotine addiction is more powerful than any other addiction, including addiction to heroin, crack cocaine and even glazed doughnuts. Right?

What hogwash! You’re not hooked. You’ve been hoodwinked. Given enough motivation, and a little shake up of your ridiculous excuses, you could stop smoking this minute and never light up again! Sure, you’d miss the ritual. And yes, you would think about taking a deeply satisfying drag. But hooked? No, you’ve been hoodwinked.

Smoking Cessation and Hypnotherapy

By Andrew M. Leon, BSN, MS, CH Certified Hypnotherapist

Three like individuals are offered an opportunity to smoke a cigarette for the first time in their lives. One will completely reject the offer. The other two will accept the offer. Only one will continue to develop a smoking habit. The other will determine that the experience is not essential to his/her life and never smoke again. Why is there such a discrepancy in these responses?

In my work with people who have been habituated or addicted to behaviors that are toxic to their health or mental health, one thing stands out. All of them seem to have some allegiance to a rule that causes them to need to manage an internal tension. It is as if there is a program in place that calls for short term relief of tension, even in the face of logic that tells the person that the proposed behavior will be toxic or harmful in the longer run. The other two people are able to process and weigh the information and choose, wisely, to move on.

When I began my practice of hypnotherapy, I began using the established scripts and techniques which usually involve direct suggestions to the subconscious not to smoke, reinforced by suggestions of negative consequences or personal affirmations. The commonality is that all these systems seem to deal with the present behavior as if it stands alone in the mind, an exclusion from all the other systems operating in the person’s life.

I was particularly impressed by a client who had exhibited deep trance and excellent motivation to stop smoking. She called the next day to say that she went home and threw away all her cigarettes and smoking paraphernalia. The following week, she came in and reported that in the interim, she was called to attend a funeral. After the burial, the friends and family gathered to eat and socialize. Many were smoking and she decided that she was doing very well and could smoke “just one cigarette” to be social. She immediately reverted to her previous chain smoking behavior and returned home to “dive into” a fifty gallon trash can and retrieve her smoking supplies.

Why Hypnotherapy?

What is hypnosis, anyway? Hypnosis is simply a method of helping you relax your body and your conscious mind, so that you can gain access to your subconscious. This kind of calm, relaxed state is referred to as a trance state. If you’ve ever daydreamed, done guided imagery or meditation, you’ve been in a trance state. And every night as you fall asleep, you pass through this same alpha-brain-wave, trance state, as well.

When you’re in a trance state, the subconscious is more open and accessible, and it will readily accept “post-hypnotic suggestions,” which are simply positive suggestions in the areas we’re working on together. These suggestions are like little seeds planted in the subconscious, so they help you make changes from that automatic, subconscious level. So you’re not so much relying on your conscious mind’s willpower, but instead you’re harnessing the power of your subconscious to help you achieve your goals.

These goals are as varied as the clients I see, but they may include stress reduction, self-esteem, self-confidence, weight loss, nonsmoking, fears and phobias, success and motivation, pain control, physical and emotional healing, and inner-child work.

I personally believe that the source of all health and well-being is within each of us. But sometimes we come up against blocks to our growth and achievement, things that seem to sabotage even our best intentions.

These blocks are stored in our subconscious and may consist of false beliefs and behavior patterns that no longer serve us. Since they’re stored in the subconscious, that’s where we have to go to change and release them. Together, we “re-tape” your outdated beliefs and habits, so that you can empower yourself to make the changes you desire in your life.

So, allow me to help you empower yourself to make the changes you desire in your life!

Hazel Newsom CHT, CtBH
Hazel Newsom CHT, CtBH Consulting Hypnotists For Financial Stress

Major news outlets reported earlier this year that hypnotists across the country have seen an increase of clients seeking help with increased financial stress. Although smoking cessation, weight control and stress have always been the most common reasons people go to hypnotists’ offices, things have changed with the economy downing.

According to the Wall Street Journal columnist, Mary Pilon, reporting in that newspaper’s financial section, this nationwide increase in hypnosis clients occurred primarily in the financial centers such as Wall Street, but also has spread across the country to include average citizens as well, not just the traders, brokers and other financial professionals.

Certified Hypnotherapist, Hazel Newsom, verifies that there has definitely been an increase in clients seeking relief from the stress caused by their personal financial situations. Many clients simply want to stop smoking to save money spent on cigarettes, while others need hypnotic help to start thinking more positively, and to help reduce their financial stress.

Miles away from the major financial centers, consulting hypnotists still have seen an increase in clients who need to adapt their life styles to accommodate a change in income, or have other personal problems resulting from the economic downturn.

“Hypnosis is not a magic wand, but simply a way of helping clients adjust their thinking, change their behaviors, and ultimately achieve their personal goals,” according to Dr. Dwight Damon, president of the 12,000 member National Guild of Hypnotists. “We work with ordinary, everyday people for ordinary, everyday problems, and financial stress certainly fits into that spectrum.”

You Want to Stop Smoking, But You Don’t Know Why It’s So Hard

I just had a client who decided it was time to give up smoking again and wants it to work for the long term. She was waking up every morning coughing for longer periods of time, and it was obvious that her body was trying to tell her that she was poisoning herself and that she needed to quit. She was also sick of using her energy to figure out how she was going to fit in smoking while her grandchildren visit or being with all her friends who are now non-smokers.

It seemed to be a fairly straightforward case, until we got to the point where we were working on getting her conscious and unconscious mind to work together to assist her in stopping her smoking habit. While she was in trance, I asked her if the two minds would work together and she responded “no;” this was the first time a client had responded so. I inquired further to find out that she was rebelling against her family’s wish for her to stop smoking. She resented them for the way they treated her as the baby of the family (she has five older siblings and there are thirteen years between the eldest and herself). She was also sick of being the peacemaker, a role she took on as a child. Keeping her smoking habit was her way to “get even” with her family.

Further along in the process, we found out the true reason why she was keeping her habit: she was unable to get her needs satisfied because she never spoke up for herself. She could easily speak up for others whom she thought were being hurt, but to speak up for herself and her needs- never, for no one saw her as the grown woman she is. At 63 years of age it was about time she learned how to speak her own truth and get her own needs taken care of.

I had her do some forgiveness work relating to her siblings. Next, we allowed her inner child to feel taken care of by the adult that she now is, allowing her to state her needs in a responsible fashion, opening up her throat chakra where the voice resides. Once that was accomplished she easily finished off the session as a non-smoker for the rest of her life.

If you are having a difficult time stopping smoking, understand that only about 5% of the population needs the extra help for what is most likely an unconscious reason. Get yourself a competent hypnotist who will not only do a normal smoking cessation process with you, but who also knows that sometimes there is more to be cleared than the presenting problem itself, and who has the skill to help you to accomplish your goal successfully.

Quit Smoking With Hypnosis

There are many ways that you can quit smoking, but some just won’t work – for you. That does not mean they are not effective, it just means that they were not effective - for you. Most people try three to five times before they successfully give up smoking. Some people take even more tries. Some find they can stop smoking on the first attempt, but that is not usually the case. If you have tried things that have failed in the past, since many people have quit smoking with hypnosis, you may want to consider this method. This can work for you also - if you want it to.

The power of suggestion may be part of why some can quit smoking with hypnosis. They believe it is going to work so it does. Also, studies have shown that there is really something to this type of treatment for smoking. Our subconscious is very powerful. It is where all our habits and addictions are stored. While some people have subconscious brains that resist addictions, others are not so inclined. For example, there is evidence that shows that alcoholism might not run in a family but rather addiction does. That is important to keep in mind.

You can go to seminars with groups of people who get this done together, or you can make an appointment with someone like me who has had a lot of success teaching people to quit smoking using hypnosis. You may have a challenge finding someone like this in a small town. If this is the case, ask your doctor. He may be able to recommend someone to you.

To quit smoking with hypnosis, you have to be patient and be willing to follow the hypnotist’s directions. Some people are worried about being hypnotized because they worry about someone taking control of their mind, and that is quite understandable. If you feel that way, bring someone you trust with you and have a one on one session. If you’re not worried about it, you might try a large seminar designed to help the entire audience to quit smoking with hypnosis. Choose what you think is best for you.

When you quit smoking with hypnosis, the hypnotist will be giving your subconscious mind suggestions that you do not want to smoke, reasons why you don’t want to smoke, and even some alternatives of what to do if you feel the urge to smoke. Your brain may be slightly rewired to be disgusted with cigarettes, the smell of them, and even the sight of them. Many people don’t ever smoke a single cigarette again after they go through this. So if you are serious about kicking that bad habit once and for all, give why not quit smoking with hypnosis this year?

Re-Solution

Have you tried to lose weight in the past but failed? You may have been fighting yourself to do it. I’ll explain.

There are two main parts to our mind: the conscious and the subconscious. The conscious part of you wants to lose weight and look good this upcoming season. Meanwhile, the subconscious wants you to continue to eat all the foods that make you feel comfortable and happy. Unfortunately for you, those tend to be composed of sugar and carbohydrates which only make your waist line grow. In a scenario like this one, the person ends up yo-yo-dieting because their “Will Power” can only last so long – literally. Will Power only gives you a short burst of energy. Once it’s gone. It’s just gone. The only thing left behind is your emotional stress and frustration which can lead to a vicious cycle of weight rebounding.

That is the reason why the problem of losing weight needs to be tackled at the source of where the mental conflict is – in your subconscious. The subconscious is where all your habits and patterns lie such as not eating healthy, not liking to exercise and drinking only soda. Once you get this part of your mind in sink with your goals, change becomes easy because you’re no longer fighting with yourself.

Hypnosis Has Been Scientifically Proven To Work For Weight Loss!

Setting your mind to lose weight and motivating yourself to enjoy healthy habits is possible with Hypnosis. A significant number of studies (several of which are listed below), have demonstrated that adding hypnosis to a weight loss program significantly increases its success.

A 1996 study conducted at the University of Connecticut published in the Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology found that, on average, people who used Hypnosis were able to lose 2.5 times more weight than a person not using Hypnosis. The authors went a step further by stating, "The correlation analysis indicated that the benefits of Hypnosis increased substantially over time."

As someone who previously battled with keeping extra pounds off, I know that you need to have the correct frame of mind in order to be successful. You may have experienced occasions when you've dieted and exercised but then your will power wore off. In the end, you slipped back to your old patterns and rebounded in weight. This continuous vicious cycle affects you not just physically but emotionally because as your self-esteem spirals downwards you start to overeat; you start eating calorie laden comfort foods again and you get stuck in the same pattern.

This scenario happens to countless of Americans who fuel the diet industry with their purchases of diet pills and other fads in hope of achieving their weight loss goals. The problem, however, is that the more you rebound, the more you set yourself up for failure for the next time you try to diet.

In reality, the perfect equation for most people to lose weight is simple. It's:

Weight Loss = The Right Mind Set + Healthy Eating + Exercise

THE EMOTIONAL HEART

As Valentine’s Day approaches we reflect on those we love. Life can truly be magical. A happy glow may actually surround some new couples, when love is in the air. But when we get to the heart of the matter with love also comes heartache. Loss of friendships, our love relationships, and deaths can cause extreme heartbreak, which can be felt as a physical wound directly in the heart. My heart is broken or I felt stabbed right in the heart are two phrases that have very deep meanings.

These wounds are real and cause injury to the physical body. As a Hypnotherapist I focus on emotional pain. On an energetic level anger is the top emotion to get stored in the heart. Anger creates a somatic response in the heart because issues of anger are very personal in nature. Fears may prelude an anger response. Emotional issues and traumas are sometimes hard to sort out because of their complexity. Emotions literally attach or compound themselves with one another. Resentment, jealousy, betrayal, frustration, guilt, are some emotions that compound with anger. Fears will often linger elsewhere in the body but can be attached; I view the stomach region as a main area as worries attach as another part of the problem. Our hearts can literally flutter and race from anxiety. Anxiety may reside over the whole body, the heart, or other areas such as the head. We are all unique to our personal emotional pain. The mind body connection resides in each and everyone of us.

As an Acupressurist, anger will affect the liver and gallbladder meridians. Meridians are energetic channels in the body. The liver plays and important role with the heart as a blood organ, as do the kidneys and spleen. The liver meridian comes directly into the area of the heart, so these other organs and systems will feel effects. Excessive joy or lack of joy can cause disharmonies of the heart and small intestine meridian. Some common symptoms of heart issues in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) are palpitations, shortness of breath or rapid breathing, insomnia, night sweats, menopause, circulatory issues for control of the blood and vessels, anxiousness, being easily startled, anxiety, depression, mood swings, and confusion. Disharmonies and imbalances are created from our emotional energies leading to physical ailments and mental disturbances.

Releasing anger, hostilities, emotions, and unresolved grief are your best bet for a healthy happy life. Forgiveness and acceptance are part of the healing process. The next time you get angry pay attention and see where you feel anger in your body, become very aware. It’s your life get heart smart for your health and well being.

Let your love grow, love yourself, and enjoy this Happy Valentines Day!

Hypnosis is simply a state of mind. If you’ve ever been driving and found yourself at your destination thinking, ‘How’d I get here?’ you’ve been in a state of hypnosis. The same is true of getting lost in a book or a daydream. We all slip in and out of hypnosis dozens of times each day. When people are in this state, they are less likely to use their critical thinking skills or as we say, they ‘bypass the critical mind’. Advertisers are artful hypnotists; they give us suggestions that, for example, drinking soda is like being tan and twenty jumping off a rope swing into a refreshing mountain lake. Suggestions go straight to the subconscious, and we find ourselves trying that new soda….

This can be useful in marketing – or in breaking bad habits and gaining new skills. Universally, bad habits come from the subconscious mind. I’ve never met a person yet who declares, ‘Today I’m going to bite my nails to the quick’, or ‘I am fully committed to smoking two packs of cigarettes today’, or ‘I promise myself that today I will consume 500 extra calories’. To the contrary, most of us promise ourselves the opposite, and experience guilt as we find our fingernails between our teeth, or as we open that second sleeve of Oreos.

Similarly, most of us don’t hit the golf course vowing to send every other ball into the sand trap, or head to the game determined to drop every pass. But how do we talk to ourselves when we succeed or fail? For many of us, our failure talk usually sounds like this: 'I’ll NEVER be any good at this game!’ And our success talk? ‘Guess I just got lucky that time. Probably won’t happen again.

In every case, we play out the script that is written in our subconscious mind. In order to change our behavior, we need to change these scripts. We need to make ourselves fully believe that we hit three under par, have smooth healthy nails, are a non-smoker, eat healthfully. As anyone who has tried to break these habits can attest, fighting with ourselves in our prefrontal cortex – our conscious mind – is not the solution.

Hypnosis, on the other hand, has a pretty good track record. It was approved by Pope Pius XII in 1956 and by the American Medical Association in 1958. When used for therapeutic purposes, hypnosis is an effective tool for changing behavior, breaking bad habits, achieving new success. It is also very powerful in overcoming anxiety and phobias, reducing stress, and treating depression. It is a voluntary interaction between the hypnotist and the client.

Contrary to what has been portrayed in fiction, people cannot be ‘mind-controlled’ into doing what they do not want to do. People under hypnosis never lose control (no matter what you may have concluded after watching a stage hypnosis show), they don’t tell secrets, and they always come out of hypnosis – usually feeling better than before they went in.

Hypnosis In the News

Business Week, February 2, 2004:
"Although still not well understood, hypnosis has gained credibility in the past five years because of research using the latest brain-imaging technology. PET, MRI, and EEG scans show that hypnotized subjects have altered sensory perception - and they're not just pushovers, play-acting, or highly imaginative."

Scientific American Mind, June 2005:
"Though often denigrated as fakery or wishful thinking, hypnosis has been shown to be a real phenomenon with a variety of therapeutic uses... Over the past few years, researchers have found that hypnotized individuals actively respond to suggestions even though they sometimes perceive the dramatic changes in thought and behavior they experience as happening 'by themselves.'"

Psychology Today, January 2001:
"Can you be hypnotized? Most people like to think that they can't. There is often the suspicion that being hypnotized could label them as being weak-willed, naive or unintelligent. But in fact, modern research shows that hypnotizability is correlated with intelligence, concentration and focus."

Forbes, August 2007:
"Although people think that hypnosis strips a person of control, it actually does just the opposite, said Dr. David Spiegel... associate chairman of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Stanford University School of Medicine."

Mayo Clinic, December 2007:
"Hypnosis [is] another way to manage pain, kick bad habits... you're more open than usual to suggestions, and this can be used to change your behavior and thereby improve your health and well-being."

The New York Times, February 2008:
Hypnosis May Ease Common Bowel Pain - "Several studies have evaluated hypnosis for patients with irritable bowel syndrome. In studies involving a total of 644 patients, about 80 percent reported relief of symptoms after hypnosis." [IBS is understood to be closely related to stress]
